Food and Culture

The best way to know a country is eating. Food is the best picture of a place. Brazil is huge and its diversity is reflected by the dishes across the country. In South Brazil, meat, cheese and the local tea (called chimarrão) are strong itens on the menu. Maybe because this part of the country cold and rich. Poverty is almost everywhere in Northwest what meakes meat be a rare dish. They use local ingredients as fruits and flour. Food is also very spicy there.

In United States, the food is quickly and frozen, like them (just kidding). The consumism is very present in north american culture and as fast they consume, they buy the food and put in the microwave. In Spain, France and Italy appreciation is valuable. Good wine, cheese, different kinds of bread. Of course, each country has a speciallity, however, it is something commom in Europe the way they eat, full of glamour and enhancing the flavor.

Some people think asians are all the some but that is not what their food say about them. As a continent they have similarity. In the kitchen, rice, noodles, vegetable, meat and deepy fried dishes are habitual dishes. However, as the cultures they can look similar but they have differences. Thailand is a colourful country and people there are happy even there is a lot of poverty over the country. That is expressed in their table, mix of colours and strong flavour. Chinese is tradicional. Like their food, chineses are not very open to diversification. As a milenar and rich culture, even when they move overseas, they keep their food, their behaviour and language.

But what about Australia? The food in Australia reflects their culture and that means here is a land of no one. You can find chinese, thai, italian, brazilian, and, of course, the fish and chips which suppose to be aussie but in actually you can eat everywhere, even in the freezing Alaska. Over the country you find good food but nothing original from them.

Of course, there are many more distinctions in each country and between them. I am far from be an expert in culinary, just sharing my humble impression. Next time you travel, please, do not eat only Mac Donalds. Give yourself this present and explore the culture trought the food.
